I’m involved with Transition 2 because I’m the chair of governors for St Andrew’s School. Transition2 is part of the St Andrew’s family. It’s been great being involved with Transition 2 from the start and to see it becoming so successful.
I’ve been a governor at St Andrew’s for about 12 years, and I’m a National Leader of Governance.
I’m married to Pip and we have a pet dog Barney to keep us busy. I work at Rolls-Royce.
Away from work I like walking Barney, travelling, and going to football matches.
I have been involved in education since 1949, first as a pupil, then as a student and then a teacher for forty seven years. I have taught children from nursery age to students who are taking their GCSEs. I was also a Youth Leader in Walsall and Birmingham in the 1970s and 80s. In addition I worked as a relief care assistant at a Walsall residential special school.
I have four children, two of whom are teachers, and seven, soon to be eight, grandchildren and one loopy dog. I believe that every individual needs to be given the opportunity to reach their full potential in life and I believe that the staff at T2 are working incredibly hard to facilitate this for students, who for one reason or another, would not be given this opportunity.
I have been a governor since Transition 2 opened. T2 is a fantastic provision which is unique in its concept, which I found exciting and wanted to be part of the journey. As governors we are involved in the decisions made and have an active part in T2’s running. We are made very welcome by the learners and staff when we visit. I have a son who attends T2 twice a week and has become a confident and independent young man thanks to the vision and diverse methods of teaching. Thank you T2 for letting me be part of the new future in independent learning.
