Holly Jolly
Last Friday we opened our doors for the Holly Jolly; a Christmas fair for our friends, families and neighbours.
The learners demonstrated brilliant enterprise and design skills in the weeks leading up to the event by making beautiful gifts which they then sold.
The learners had leafleted the surrounding streets and it was heart-warming to see so many neighbours come along. One couple who live across the road had seen the invitation and brought with them some homemade samosas and bhajis to sell on the day; true community spirit!
We were delighted to be joined by the Mayor, Cllr Paul Pegg who spent time chatting to learners and visitors.
Around 100 visitors attended, raising £800 for the college. Many people said how lovely it was to get the community together, with everybody chatting to each other and making new friends and connections.
The learners ran the stalls and were able to put their communication skills into good use. Visitors commented on the welcoming and friendly atmosphere and how polite the learners were.
“It was a wonderful festive opportunity for local people to find out about the learning that takes place within T2. The college embraces community life into its own way of working. Opening the doors and inviting the public into the college helps T2 to reflect and to generate new ideas to make the learning journey even better. It also creates a great opportunity for learners to share their journey with the wider world. A magical day, well done to everyone involved.” Simon Hancox, Local Area Coordinator (Derby City Council)
Staff were impressed to see how the learners welcomed everyone and adapted to a very different college day. It was such a success, so look out for more events next year!
