BeConnected Case Study – Seth’s New Found Confidence Through Connection

Introduction & Background

I started college shortly after COVID so I didn’t really have a transition period. I stopped going in and got kicked out of college. I didn’t go to college or do anything after that really for three years.

A Fresh Start

I moved to Derby about a year ago when I moved house with my Mum and started looking around for things to do and Transition2 (and BeConnected Group) seemed the best one. The staff were nice and the location was easier to get to.

My Mental Well-Being

Since joining BeConnected, my mental health has improved. Before I wasn’t depressed but I was bored because I wasn’t really doing anything. I was able to continually come to classes. I actually had some motivation because the place is fun and lively.

I haven’t really been against talking about my emotions but I find it much easier than I did because the people here listen and want to help. They listen because they want to, not because they have to.

My Physical Health

I found the yoga sessions relaxing when I’ve done them and I’ve built up my stamina through walking to places. It can be exhausting but in a good way. There’s always a reason for it.

Confidence & Connection

I’ve been more confident with public transport and basically going outside and doing a lot more stuff in the community than I did.

I’m friends with most people here but I’ve become close with Thomas because we’re into the same things. He likes History and we’re going to now meet up every week to do War Hammer together.

Encouragement & Advice

“I’d recommend people with a similar situation to what I had because they might not have a clue what they want to do and there isn’t a lot to do. Here they can meet new people, make friends, enjoy the activities and relax.”
